Harley Davidson and an Aged Brand

March 22nd, 2009

Since I blew up the motherboard on my laptop this past week I haven’t been able to keep up on the news as much as I’d like…so I’ve spent the better part of Sunday catching up on things.  I stumbled across this article on NYTimes.com. I’ll try and give you the readers digest version.  Harley Davidson, the Motorcycle manufacturer, has fallen on tough times for a number of reasons. The article is primarily financial driven to show how and why the company is struggling. The economy is one of the primary ones…obviously.  However, the struggles have brought to light something far more long term and thus detrimental to the Harley brand…not keeping up with the consumer. Catching Up…

March 22nd, 2009

I haven’t been as diligent as I’d like about blogging, my schedule has been a little out of sync as of late…thus no routine  leads to no blogging.  Any way I’ll catch most of you up on the latest  here in the Rose city.

Last weekend I celebrated my Irish heritage by going to Kell’s Friday night and consuming a few pints of Guinness followed by a few glasses of fine Irish whisky and dancing a jig or 2.  For those of you who don’t know Kell’s is a very recognized Irish pub here Portland.  In fact, the St. Pats day party is the biggest on the west coast.

The following Sunday I used as marathon training by running a 15k race, affectionately dubbed “The Shamrock Run”.  This was a good lesson in doing your homework on the race course. What I thought would be a “challenging” course which consisted of an out and back…turned out to be a brutal climb up the only mountain in Portland.  About the time I thought the course was supposed to zig…it zagged.  In fact it zagged straight up the steepest hill in Portland, past the entrance of the hospital that sits on “pill hill” and back down.  Despite the rain, the cold, and the wind…it was a pretty decent little run, well as little as 9.3 miles is anyway. I finished with a pretty decent time despite climbing a small mountain.

Works been pretty quite which is a nice change, its especially quite when you blow the mother board up on your laptop.  :)

 Until the next time…

 Cheers,

Saturday night…a forceful affair

March 8th, 2009

writersblock benefit show at holocene 3-7-09There really isn’t much sense in doing a week in review at this point since it would only consist of work, run, sleep, wash and repeat. Work this week could best be put as “colorful”.  It is worth noting that I did learn a lot this week, sometimes you’d just prefer not to learn through dysfunction.  And I digress…

Saturday consisted of what is becoming a challenging, yet rewarding routine.  It consists of me getting up just after the sun, which is rising earlier and earlier, and running a ridiculous amount of miles through the woods.  Follow that by a hot shower, a cup of black coffee, a huge breakfast Read more…

Week In Reivew

March 1st, 2009

It was a pretty decent week here in Portland.  I clipped along at a decent pace at work and got quite a bit done.  I also was able to get some personal time in during the week as well.  And of course, I ran…a lot.

Without further ado…the list. Read more…

Weekend In Review

February 22nd, 2009
Twins??

Twins??

Clearly I didn’t get around to my self imposed “Sunday blogging session” last week as I was in Montana for the long weekend.  I went to Lincoln, MT (yes, home of the Unabomber) this time around to my good friend Lizzie’s cabins (yes, there are 2) for what is turning into an annual snowmobiling adventure.  Fortunately there was no nude snowmobiling this year…don’t ask.  However, my friend Eric did manage to wreck his brand new sled (although to his credit, his wife wrecked it first…alibi with considerably less damage).  Getting away from work for a few day of fun in the snow is just what the doctor ordered.  Work has been especially busy so far this year as I’m getting acclimated to my new position.  Alright, let’s get down to business…here are some quick fun facts about the Montana trip. Re-Branding…Capitalizing on the Downturn

February 8th, 2009

First off let me just say that I haven’t blogged nearly as much as I would like to.  My new position is keeping me even busier than I had anticipated…but that’s probably a good thing.

As I twittered earlier in the week, I got the idea to do a post about re-branding…here is how this all came about. Read more…

Week in Review

February 8th, 2009

Work has kept me especially busy in the new year.  My good friend Mario, who helped me create this blog, mentioned in one of his posts that he sets aside an hour each morning to blog on ScrappyMarketing.com.  I like the thought of being able to do that, but at this point that is not even remotely an option.  So instead I’m trying to get into the habit of blogging on Sunday morning and using my twitter to remind me of things to blog about.  I’ll put my Re-Branding post today sometime.  So I figured I’d start with just recapping my week to get the ol’ creative juices flowing…. Tek Signed

February 1st, 2009

Ok for those fortunate 3 people who read my blog, this will be my last Red Sox post until spring training (unless Theo does something I deem worth blogging about). We, and when I say we I mean the brain trust of the Red Sox which I feel I’m a virtual member of, signed Jason Varitek to a one year $5m deal on Friday.  The sox brass are going to continue to look for the next younger version of Tek, but until then we’ve got the best in game manager in the MLB calling the shots for the 2009 season…needless to say i’m very happy about this.

Tek Update!

January 25th, 2009

It appears that Jason Varitek and Boston Red Sox are closing in on signing the Captain catcher.  This is great news as it would bring veteran leadership behind the plate and help cement the pitching that Theo and Co. bolstered in the off season…this is great new!  Here is a link to Tony Massarotti of the Boston Globe about that latest dialog.
