A Brilliant Mess…

May 27th, 2009

While I’m sure my father will lecture me for making a post like this…I’ll do it anyway.

I was reading the NYTimes.com, one of my favorite sites, and I came across an article that will be in the NYTimes Magazine about President Bill Clinton.  Its a somewhat lengthy read, but it really dives into a few different aspects of Clinton’s post presidency.  When it comes to politics I only like diving deep into a few areas, their first “100 Days”, their post presidency, and the funeral.  Before you judge me on the funeral part, you get more history in one presidential funeral than any history book.  Case in point, did you know that Regan only tied his ties in a double Windsor?  Read more…

Things I Like…

May 25th, 2009

Wow, so berate me if you must about my lack of blogging…but…ok I’ve to nothing. No great excuse.  We’ll just say that I was on a blogging sabbatical looking for inspiration.

So while I was on this little sabbatical I stumbled across a few things that I think are pretty much the coolest thing since sliced bread.

  1. iTunes.  I know, it’s been around pretty much since the advent of the iPod, but hear me out.  It started when I was trying to watch President Obama get sworn in as president in January.  Our lovely news channels did such a bang up job of their internet feeds that I wasn’t able to watch it.  This lead to my thinking, hey…maybe I can find something on iTunes.  Like NPR or something.  Read more…

“How long has it been?” (Too long)

April 26th, 2009

It’s been so long since I’ve posted I’ve almost forgot how my blog works.  Work has been beyond busy, almost to the point where working a few hours on Saturday seems normal.  I think it goes without saying that I’d rather not get into that habit, however I’ve been working on some pretty cool projects lately that I think will really start to move our organization in a different direction and how we do business with our customers.  Ok, enough about work.  I’ve obviously been busy lately, but here is a quick sampling of what I’ve been up to… Read more…

Catching Up…

March 22nd, 2009

I haven’t been as diligent as I’d like about blogging, my schedule has been a little out of sync as of late…thus no routine  leads to no blogging.  Any way I’ll catch most of you up on the latest  here in the Rose city.

Last weekend I celebrated my Irish heritage by going to Kell’s Friday night and consuming a few pints of Guinness followed by a few glasses of fine Irish whisky and dancing a jig or 2.  For those of you who don’t know Kell’s is a very recognized Irish pub here Portland.  In fact, the St. Pats day party is the biggest on the west coast.

The following Sunday I used as marathon training by running a 15k race, affectionately dubbed “The Shamrock Run”.  This was a good lesson in doing your homework on the race course. What I thought would be a “challenging” course which consisted of an out and back…turned out to be a brutal climb up the only mountain in Portland.  About the time I thought the course was supposed to zig…it zagged.  In fact it zagged straight up the steepest hill in Portland, past the entrance of the hospital that sits on “pill hill” and back down.  Despite the rain, the cold, and the wind…it was a pretty decent little run, well as little as 9.3 miles is anyway. I finished with a pretty decent time despite climbing a small mountain.

Works been pretty quite which is a nice change, its especially quite when you blow the mother board up on your laptop.  :)

 Until the next time…

 Cheers,

Week In Reivew

March 1st, 2009

It was a pretty decent week here in Portland.  I clipped along at a decent pace at work and got quite a bit done.  I also was able to get some personal time in during the week as well.  And of course, I ran…a lot.

Without further ado…the list. Read more…

Weekend In Review

February 22nd, 2009
Twins??

Twins??

Clearly I didn’t get around to my self imposed “Sunday blogging session” last week as I was in Montana for the long weekend.  I went to Lincoln, MT (yes, home of the Unabomber) this time around to my good friend Lizzie’s cabins (yes, there are 2) for what is turning into an annual snowmobiling adventure.  Fortunately there was no nude snowmobiling this year…don’t ask.  However, my friend Eric did manage to wreck his brand new sled (although to his credit, his wife wrecked it first…alibi with considerably less damage).  Getting away from work for a few day of fun in the snow is just what the doctor ordered.  Work has been especially busy so far this year as I’m getting acclimated to my new position.  Alright, let’s get down to business…here are some quick fun facts about the Montana trip. Week in Review

February 8th, 2009

Work has kept me especially busy in the new year.  My good friend Mario, who helped me create this blog, mentioned in one of his posts that he sets aside an hour each morning to blog on ScrappyMarketing.com.  I like the thought of being able to do that, but at this point that is not even remotely an option.  So instead I’m trying to get into the habit of blogging on Sunday morning and using my twitter to remind me of things to blog about.  I’ll put my Re-Branding post today sometime.  So I figured I’d start with just recapping my week to get the ol’ creative juices flowing…. My First Blog Post - About My First Blog Post

January 13th, 2009

So…I’ve got a blog now…that’s cool. I’ve been wanting to get a blog up and running for some time. Why you ask. Well, numerous friends of mine have one (some are websites, but I consider them on in the same for the most part…although I realize they are vastly different in structure). One in particular that I started to read regularly was the mario blog by my friend and fellow Harvard of the West graduate Mario. However the first time I ever really discovered myself looking for blogs to read was when I was interviewing with Microsoft and came across one that I felt was exceptional. It’s called One Louder by Heather Hamilton of the MSDN group @ Microsoft. Specifically she is a Staffing Manager and I found her info to be extremely helpful and still read her blog from time to time. So I enlisted a couple friends to help me create adamsteffen.com. My good friend Mario and Ryan (Ryan also has a blog I now keep tabs on) agreed to get me up and running so he we are…with a blog. Not bad for a kid from Montana. Read more…
